Indigenous Healer & Botanist

Taita Carlos

Medicine-man, Taita and Botanist.
Taita Carlos is a medicine man, botanist, and healer from the Ingano Indigenous tribe of Putumayo, Colombia. From a young age, Carlos has been devoted to the art of healing, studying Yage plant medicine. He has learned from many grandparents and elders of the Yage tradition, with the jungle itself being his main teacher. Taita Carlos has spent extensive time traversing the jungles of Putumayo, absorbing its deep inner wisdom.
Taita Carlos offers genuine wisdom teachings. Despite his profound knowledge, he can easily transform into a friend or even a playful child, laughing at life. He is one of the most remarkable healers I have ever worked with, helping many to heal from what once seemed impossible. Taita Carlos is a true gift to the world.

The Inga Tribe

The Inga people are an indigenous group with roots in the Quechua culture, tracing back to the pre-Hispanic era of the Americas.

While archaeological evidence suggests that the Inga culture originated in Quito, Ecuador, their largest community today is found in the Putumayo department of Colombia.

The Inga developed one of the most sophisticated agricultural systems of the Paleo-Indian period and were also known for their skills in ranching and poultry farming, particularly in turkey breeding.

Renowned for their medicinal practices, the Inga are recognized as shamans in both Ecuador and Colombia. Many historians and researchers believe that the Inga have ties to the great Inca Empire and are considered one of the most resilient and warrior-like cultures of the pre-Hispanic era. They are thought to have been primary caretakers of the Inca Empire.

The Inga shamans, known as “sinchi,” were deeply connected to the sacred plant yagé (Ayahuasca), which they used for healing and as a means of communicating with their gods and ancestors. For the Inga, yagé was not only a powerful cure for diseases but also a spiritual tool that connected them to the divine.
